We were a hen group coming to Kinsale for 2 nights. We had originally booked other accommodation months in advance so knew nothing about friars lodge. On the day we were travelling down for the hen, i received a phone call stating i was double booked and we could not stay there anymore. it was a nightmare and we had no where to stay. I went to a local hotel to ask for help and they called our fairy god mother Maureen at Friars lodge. Maureen heard our story and immediately opened up Friars lodge for us to stay in. Maureen gave us as many rooms as we needed and more. Nothing was too big an ask even when we locked one of the keys in the bedroom she came straight away and sorted us out. Maureen was so kind and friendly and we had the whole guesthouse to ourselves. Maureen was renovating the property so it was closed for a few weeks but saved our hen weekend by taking us in. Maureen we cant thank you enough you really helped us out. When we got there i was so happy with the rooms. All the rooms were massive! I think it is better than some hotels I have stayed in. We had everything we needed in the rooms including, tv, iron, towels, toiletries, tea making facilities and the location was absolutely perfect! We were a 2 minute walking distance from all local attractions. I have always heard kinsale is such a friendly spot and the people are amazing but Maureen you went above and beyond for us and we cant thank you enough. If anyone is thinking about Friars lodge I would highly recommend this place its amazing!

Central location, clean and friendly
"A great spot for a girls weekend in Kinsale. The owner showed great kindness to us and the guesthouse is in a fantastic location for exploring the beautiful little town of Kinsale. This was my second visit to Friar’s Lodge, having stayed here a number of years ago for a wedding in Ballinacurra House."

Fantastic Visit
I recently spent a great weekend in the beautiful, historic town of Kinsale staying at this hotel/guest house which was spacious, comfortable and clean. It is centrally located and only a short walk to restaurants, bars and cafes. The proprietor was welcoming, friendly and couldn’t have been more helpful. I can’t wait to go back.

Delightful Stay
We recently booked a family room at the Friars Lodge. It was very impressive regarding its location, it is a two minute walk into the heart of the beautiful town of Kinsale, with free car parking. The approach to the lodge from Cork is really easy to get to and avoids having to navigate your car through the winding medieval streets of Kinsale, which are better approached on a leisurely stroll. The room was incredibly spacious for our family of four. The beds were really comfortable and everything was clean and tidy. The lodge was also located in quiet surroundings so the kids had no problems drifting off to sleep. The wifi was fast enough for us to download movies quickly onto the iPad to watch with the kids just before bedtime. The room also had an iron which was great for giving packed clothes a quick run through before heading out in the evening. The breakfasts in the morning were great and provided something for everyone in our young family, the cooked breakfast was superb. Maureen, who owns the lodge, was welcoming, incredibly nice and really put us at ease, with great knowledge of the area. This was our first Covid 19 trip and we were reassured by the level of social distancing and hand sanitiser in the lodge. It was excellent value for money and I would easily recommend it to anyone with a young family or anyone wishing to visit Kinsale,

Posted on Steve Bradley, Beatles HistorianVerified large room, very clean, friendly staff, great location town centre location with ample parking. large, immaculate room with all the usual facilities. friendly, helpful staff. room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. bed and bedding all great, heavy velvet curtains darkened the room to ensure a good night's sleep. short walk to harbour, pubs, restaurants, cafes etc, ideal spot for exploring Kinsale or as a base for travel to e.g., Cork. Highly recommended, thank youPosted on gomostplacesVerified A lovely stay at Friar's Lodge We enjoyed two nights in mid-Oct. in a large, comfortable, double room. This hotel is very clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. It's an older, historic hotel that may seem at bit dated to some, but that's part of it's charm and character. Although we didn't make use of it, there is a comfortable, cozy lounge by the lobby where sherry is available. It's a quiet location and an easy stroll into the town centre. The inclusion of parking and delicious options for breakfast were bonus features. Definitely recommend and we would stay again.Posted on Southern SunshineVerified Charming Our hotel room was HUGE! It's an easy walk down into town, and the breakfast was lovely with a good variety of dishes. The furniture is, shall we say, vintage 1980? There is an electric kettle with tea, milk, and sugar. Friendly staff. Would stay here again.Posted on Robert WVerified Great, wheelchair-accessible premises (but up a short hill) Loved staying at the Friar's Lodge. Room was very nice and spacious. Breakfast was very good quality. Staff were very friendly and helpful. As a wheelchair user, I booked a ground floor room. The premises had no steps and the corridors were wide (for turning circles for wheelchairs), which was great. I suppose the only downside, and this is no reflection on the Friar's Lodge itself, is that it is located up a short hill from central Kinsale town. I had no problem getting up it in my powerchair, but you may need help getting up it in a manual wheelchair. 5/5Posted on traveling_with_kathyVerified Lovely Stay Lovely 2-night stay at the Friars Lodge. We were on a group tour. Breakfast buffet and made-to-order hot food. There is a small elevator. My sister and I shared a room with 2 beds. Both the room and bathroom were quite large compared to our Dublin hotel. We enjoyed our stay.Posted on Pamela SVerified Comfortable and convenient place to stay in the absolutely charming village of Kinsale. We absolutely LOVED our stay at the Friar's lodge. Super close to the downtown, but being a couple of streets out, it was very quiet. We booked a huge room, and it was so nice that they have an elevator. The parking right on site was super convenient. Great service, and tasty breakfast.Posted on Doug MVerified The Team Went Above and Beyond! The Friar's Lodge was perfect. The location gave us access to Kinsale. The rooms were spacious. What I really want to say is that Maureen went out of her way and above and beyond to help me out. I had a package delivered but messed up the delivery timing which was totally my fault. That didn't matter to Maureen, she made sure the package was returned by taking the time to print a label and deliver the package to a shipper. Thank you Maureen. If we ever come back to Kinsale, we are ABSOLUTELY going to stay with you. Posted on Denise MVerified Be prepared to pay more This reservation was made by another B&B on our behalf and we were told the room rate. Upon checkin, the room rate was confirmed. At checkout, we were charged a different rate and when I questioned the rate, the lady at reception was incredibly rude and said there’s no way because they don’t rent rooms at that rate. When I asked her to confirm, she said she wouldn’t call her manager because she knew she was right. The breakfast food is subpar, at best-most of the pastries on the bar are stale. The hot breakfast you can order is average. The location is great and this is why I gave them 3 stars.Posted on JeffVerified Friar’s Lodge, a great place to start. Our visit was very enjoyable. The room was clean and comfortable, it was convenient to get to town, the breakfast was very good. My wife and I really enjoyed our stay. Kinsale was a place great place to start our trip around Ireland and the Friar’s Lodge was an excellent place for our first night.
